In addition, there is an open course for young orienteers (both girls and boys) that is shorter and technically easier than classes H/D 13-18.
Huippuliiga, World Ranking Event
Third event of Huippuliiga series and World Ranking Event will take place in classes H21E and D21E. According to the Finnish Orienteering Federation rules (3.562), a GPS tracking device must be worn by a competitor if the organising club decides so.
Entries in elite classes may be restricted. Competitors will be chosen primarily on the current Finnish online ranking (28 May), 60 best in H21 and 50 best in D21. An extra place may be given by Finnish Orienteering Federation or IOF (WRE Controller) to a Finnish or international participant if he/she is eligible based on either Finnish online ranking or World Ranking (28 May). Maximum of 60 runners in H21E and 50 in D21E will be allowed to participate. The maximum number of runners may be increased in the presence of many world class foreign guests.
Fifteen top orienteers based on standing of Huippuliiga Series as well as the online and World Ranking (28 May) will start at the end of the class after other competitors. The leader of Huippuliiga will start fourth last, the runner-up third last and the third fifth last.
Entry fees must be paid on 28th of May 2008 at the latest. If a competitor is not chosen to take part in elite class and will thus be moved to A class, the fee for the A class must be paid on the same day (28 May 2008). Anyone with a missing payment will not be allowed to start.
Qualification for JWOC
The event will also be qualification race for the Finnish team for JWOC 2008 in classes H/D 20E. International orienteers can take part provided that they show they are elite runners in their age class.
Course lengths
Relatively long middle distance, in classes H/D21E the estimated winning time is 40 minutes.
Entries
The entry closing date is Wednesday 28 May 2008 (by 24.00). For online entry, please use the form on the website www.orivedenponnistus.fi/suunnistus. Postal entries should be sent to the address: Taina Uotila, Uotilantie 22, 35300 Orivesi, Finland.
Late entries
You can enter late by phone on Tuesday 3 June 2008 6-8 pm +358509665608 or by using an online entry form on 3 June 2008 by midnight. Please note that there is a double fee for late entries.
Entry fees
H21E and D21E, 30 euros. H/D20E and H/D20-100, 16 euros, H/D16-18 (also junior open), 10 euros, H/D10RR-14, 8 euros. Due on 28 May 2008. All payments must be made to the account: IBAN: FI35 1159 3000 1027 32, BIC: NDEAFIHH. An extra fee of 4.5 euros has to be added on every payment made from outside the European Union to cover bank costs.
Electronic punching
EMIT-system will be used. The number of the EMIT card must be entered in the entry form. For competitors with a missing EMIT number, a rental EMIT card will be reserved for a charge of 5 euros.
How to get there
There will be signs on road 66, 12 km from Orivesi towards Ruovesi, (6 km from the junction of roads 66 and 58). Estimated driving time from there to the competition centre is 10 minutes.
Parking
Parking will be on the side of a private road approximately 1-2 km from the competition centre. A parking fee of 2 euros a car will be collected. If your club plans to come by a team bus or coach it is vital to inform the organisers beforehand. In such a case, please contact the main organiser Arto Ylinen.
Starts
The start is 600 m from the competition centre; first start will be at 11.00. For H/D21E the start is at the competition centre, first start will be at 12.00.
Map
A six-coloured orienteering map in a scale of 1:10 000 with a contour interval of 2.5 m, printed in May 2008.
Terrain
Forest with varying features. Be prepared for anything from fast and enjoyable to slow and painful. The distance from Jukola terrain is less than 10 km! This is the perfect chance to prepare for the following week’s relay.
Open courses
There are two open courses 3 and 5 km. Enter and pay 7 euros at the competition centre.
String course for children
After competition starts, there is a possibility to run H/D10RR (a string course), just pay 4 euros and enter at the competition centre.
Changing and washing
Near the competition centre, by a lake.
Restaurant and childcare
Restaurant and childcare will be at the competition centre.
